Online Learning Platform: Is it possible to have simplicity and flexibility?
Universities select an online learning platform as a foundation and shell in which to house the content of their online learning programs and classes. While customized offerings often add greater flexibility, it’s also critical to maintain a simple ease of use. Many students can thrive in a simple environment that gives them easy access to the material that they need. Customization is nice, but not at the expense of simplicity.

Online Professor Travel, Tips, International Long Haul Flights & Avoiding Jetlag
With a lot of miles (millions) under my belt and countless international trips to time zones not conducive to working from the minute you hit the ground, a good friend recently asked me for some tips for international travel to keep from going stir crazy when your hours hit 15 or more in the flying tin can. The truth is long hauls do not make me crazy, it feels like a bit of an office with wings; but her question is valid and points well taken.
I was asked by a few folks to share this with other educators who may also be traveling a lot. So here goes – my method to surviving long haul international trips and avoiding jet lag pretty much completely (admitting that lifelong insomnia plays an instrumental role in jetlag survival and staying awake for long periods of time without much downside beyond crankiness). My goal is to land, stay awake until nighttime after being awake the entire flight, sleep a full night, and hit the ground running the next day both at work and enjoying the new sights.

Interviewing - What I Have Learned
Recently, I participated in my second interview. The first interview was a phone interview. I thought I did rather well and was disappointed to learn I was not offered a position. I give credit to the panel for making the process rather easy and comfortable. For my first interview with an higher education facility, I was most impressed and ended the process on a favorable note.

Happy Memorial Day – My Reflection
As I write this, I ponder the up coming weekend whereas we will spend time with family and friends celebrating Memorial Day 2016 (I hope you have wonderful weather as well). This is a time where we spend time at picnics and enjoying the times. We take the time to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation as well as those who have served.

Finding Faculty: Hiring Practices That Work (from personal experience as academic hiring leader)
Asst. Director Maine Educator's Consortium, Adjunct Online Instructor, Author, School Administrator
It's a monumental investment of time and money when you seek to hire quality faculty. There is no magic bullet or system of guarantees when you want to add the best of the best to your team. As a 20 year educational administrator, I understand the tremendous responsibility it is to secure high performing faculty. It is the shared desire of all building leaders because we understand the link that faculty has with improving morale, professionalism, and ultimately our student learning. I remember in my early leadership years, I spent many painful hours selecting candidates that were not "good fits". This was discouraging and my ego was bruised. I needed to improve my strategy, so I swallowed my pride and realized I didn’t have all the answers. I began to seek out colleagues that I respected and asked questions on how they were finding such great matches to bring on board. This was one of the single and smartest decisions I ever made. Over time, I began to utilize very specific methods that helped to secure my choices in matching people to positions. I began to have such success with building my teams with longevity that I was often sought out for advice on the topic. Although there are many opinions regarding best practices, I have compiled my KNOWLEDGE of 9 essential tips that focus on HIRING PRACTICES THAT WORK!
